The Hampton Family House was built circa 1757 in what is now [Hamptonville, North Carolina] (Ref):{An Illustrated History of Yadkin County, copyright 1981 by W.E. Rutledge} by Thomas Hampton (1728-1796) who came to northwest North Carolina along with his brother Anthony Hampton from Pittsylvania County, Virginia in the 1740s. Anthony and Thomas may have even built the 2-story log home together, before Anthony eventually moved and settled in South Carolina. Anthony's son [Wade Hampton I] fought in the Revolutionary War and became a General. Later in life Thomas Hampton moved back to Virginia, but his son Henry Hampton (1750-1832) stayed in North Carolina where, after serving as a Colonel in the Revolutionary War, he raised his family and founded the town of Hamptonville. The hand hewn pine logs of the home were covered by weatherboarding by the early 1800s, and the west wing of the house was added by Henry's Grandson, Civil War Colonel John A. Hampton (1836-1917). The house is likely the oldest in all of western North Carolina (most early settlements in NC were in the eastern part of the state) and is listed on [North Carolina's oldest buildings]. The eighth generation of the same family owns and occupies the house today.
