Hamza Al-Muzaini

Hamza bin Qablan Al-Muzaini (Arabic: حمزة المزيني)(1363 AH / 1944 CE) - a contemporary Saudi professor of linguistics and a member of the Board of Directors of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority since July 2020[1]. He holds a doctorate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in the United States of America, and he is a professor at King Saud University in Riyadh. Dr. Al-Muzaini is also a well-known critic and writes for Saudi newspapers, the most famous of which is Al-Watan. He is known for his sober articles on criticism of curricula, criticism of the concepts of Islamization of knowledge, and criticism of traditional currents. Dr. Al-Muzaini had a well-known debate with a traditional doctor that reached the courts, and the judiciary issued a harsh ruling against Al-Muzaini. The Saudi king interfered with the ruling, dropping it, in a precedent after which a royal decree was issued to refer all cases of objection to the outputs of expression and opinion to a committee in the Ministry of Information and not to the General Court. Dr. Al-Muzaini is known on the Arab level for translating the books of the famous American linguist Noam Chomsky into Arabic.[2]
