Comment: An excellent start to the article, and one that I would love to accept, but… Wikipedia articles, ESPECIALLY biographies of living people, require a minimum of 2-3 independent secondary sources, which talk about the subject in depth, and which are not interviews (as they don’t count as secondary sources)… unfortunately, the ongaku natalie sources are all either too short, or interviews, so they don’t count for establishing notability. The same basic problem holds for the other sources currently cited. In addition, biographies of living people require line citations for all assertions, which unfortunately this article doesn’t currently have. If you find some stronger sources, and add the line citations for all claims, then this article should easily get accepted, but until that happens, it will not. Sekitori Hana (せきとり はな, 1990 December 18)[2] is a Japanese female singer-songwriter.
Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa. Major debut in 2019 from Universal Sigma. The surname is the same as the sumo term "Sekitori," but it is her real name[3].
Biography
Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa[2], she spent her childhood in Germany[2]. After returning to Japan, she began studying for the elementary school entrance exam around 5th grade and was accepted to Keio Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School. Later, she joined the light music club at Keio Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School and started her music activities[4].
In 2009, while enrolled at Keio University Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, she received the Special Jury Award at the 2010 Senko Riot.
In June 2010, she started activity as a member of PlayYou.House but suspended activities in September to focus on her solo career. She ended her activity with PlayYou.House in March 2011, effectively withdrawing.
In 2012, her song "Musume" was used in a TV commercial for Kobe Women's University, and she continued to provide TV CM songs for the same school for three more years.
In 2014, she wrote the image song "dawn" for the American film Short Term.
In March 2016, she appeared in the band "Sanfujins" with Toshimitsu Okuda and others during the "Questionnaire Over Injection 2016 Vol.1" project. In November, she appeared in a TV commercial for Akagi Nyugyo's "Iber Ice Dessert" and performed the song.
In March 2017, her song "Moshimo Boku ni" was used in the Lipotam D web commercial, in which she also appeared. In May, her song "Kimi no Sumu Machi" was used in a Hiroshima Nets Toyota commercial featuring actress Non (actress). In June, she wrote "Shinkin Girl" for a WEB commercial for the Japan Credit Union Association. She appeared at World Happiness 2017 in August, co-wrote "Onigiri wa Omamori" with Misoji to MC Gohan, and provided lyrics for Kasalinchi's song "Tsutae ni Iku no."
In April 2018, she performed at Arakaki Rock Festival. From April to July, her song "Oya Shira Zu" was broadcast as the NHK Minna no Uta. In June, her song "All Right" was used in a Nets Toyota Hiroshima commercial. She appeared at Fuji Rock Festival in July, served as a substitute host on FM Yokohama's "Wacci Hashiguchi Yohei no Doa Aketemasu," and performed at Rising Sun Rock Festival 2018. She completed a nationwide tour, including a hall solo concert, with all tickets sold out. In December, she participated in Dotama's "Interstellar feat. Sekitori Hana."
In February 2019, she provided lyrics and music for Kana Hanazawa's "Oshiete." Her song "Oya Shira Zu" received a strong response on NHK's Minna no Uta and was rebroadcast. She began serializing essays in Kanagawa Shimbun and from May, released her major debut mini-album "Gyakuagari no Mukougawa" through Universal Sigma. She started serializing essays on media Hiroba by Ikimono Gakari's Yoshiki Mizuno. In June, she hosted her own special program "Dozokoi Chanko Radio" on TBS Radio, and held her "Tsuyu Daku Tour." In July, she temporarily appeared as a personality on J-WAVE's Good Neighbors. In October, she appeared as a guest on Hiroshima FM's "DAYS" and Tokyo FM's "The Trad." In December, she substituted as a personality on FM Osaka's "Love Flap" and hosted her own special "Dozokoi Sanpo Radio" on TBS Radio.
In January 2020, she became a regular personality on Tokyo FM's new program "Nerumae no Mae." In March, she released her mini-album "Kitto Watashi o Matteiru." In May, she held a live stream "Ie de Gosen Funsen" (Playing music at home). In September, she released the digital single "Ima o Kudasai" (theme song for FOD drama Anless Cinderella: Arisang Cinderella Another Story ~ New Pharmacist Kurumi Aihara). In November, she released the digital single "Anata ga Iru Kara" (theme song for the movie Kanshari - Zutto Issho ni). She published her first book "Dosukoi Nitchi" (published by Shobunsha). In December, she held a digital live concert "Nenmatsu Da Yo! Zen'in Shugo."
In March 2021, she released her major 1st full album "Atarashii Hana."
In March 2022, she wrote the opening & ending theme songs "Radio wa TBS" for the new TBS Radio program Mukai M Mushi no #Furatto[5].
On February 22, 2025, she announced her departure from Universal Sigma and the establishment of her independent label "NOKOTTA RECORDS"[6].
On March 13, 2026, she released the digital single "Gohokoku," which also announced her marriage along with the lyrics[7].
Musical Style
Known for her emotional and powerful singing voice[8] and a unique musical world[9]. Music journalist Tetsu Narimatsu described her mini-album "Iza Ikakan" as "Six tracks with her signature original yet smooth melodies and lyrically powerful words."[10]. She attributes her musical influence to her childhood spent in Germany[9].
Her musical evolution from her teens to her twenties saw her singing about "the agony of teenage feelings" in her first album "THE," but after "Nakakurai no Hanashi," she expressed a desire to sing more authentic songs[11].
Her singing style is rooted in her "origins" of acoustic guitar and "singing and playing"[10].
