The Handbook of United States Coins (Blue Book), by R. S. Yeoman, is a value guide for United States coin collectors. Unlike the Red Book this is a resource showing how much coin dealers were paying on average to buy U.S. coins by type, date, and mintmark.

Editorial[edit]

ER. S. Yeoman was the editor until he retired in 1970.

In 1971 his assistant, Kenneth Bressett, took over as the editor of the Blue Book and Red Book until he retired in 2017. In 2018 Jeff Garrett, former ANA president, took over as senior editor, and still holds that position. Yeoman is still listed as the author of each edition of the books, and Bressett is listed as editor emeritus.

Name[edit]

The Guide Book received its Blue Book nickname due to the book's solid blue cover, and as a comparison to the A Guide Book of United States Coins, known as the Red Book. .

Formats[edit]

In addition to the traditional hardcover edition, new formats have been added through the years.

Early editions of the Blue Book are collectible.
