Hans Troyer (born February 16, 2000) is an American professional ultra runner known for record‐setting performances and podium finishes in 100 km and 100-mile events. He earned the enduring nickname “The Destroyer” after surviving a life‐threatening congenital condition that required surgery on his second day of life. As of mid-2025, he holds a UTMB® Index of 867 and has claimed victories at the HOKA Bandera Endurance Trail Run, Tussey Mountainback 50 mi, and other marquee ultras.[1][2]
Early life and education
Troyer was born on February 16, 2000, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.[3] Raised in Newnan, Georgia, he graduated from Trinity Christian School in 2018, where he lettered in both cross country and track and field and was named GISA AAA All-State in the 800 m, 1600 m, 3200 m, and 5000 m events.[3]
Collegiate career
From 2019 to 2023, Troyer competed for Augusta University. As a senior in 2023, he recorded a personal best of 30:30.70 in the 10,000 m at the Flames Invitational, won both the 10,000 m and 3000 m steeplechase at the Peach Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, and earned All-Conference and USTFCCCA All-Region honors.[3]
Professional ultra running career
Since turning professional, Troyer has compiled an impressive résumé on the North American ultra trail circuit. His UTMB® Index stands at 867.[4]
