Haptic medicine

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Haptic medicine is a naturally occuring form of complimentary medicine which has been described as "based on loving touch for healing and preventing disease".[1] The American Holistic Nurses Association [2] offers formal training in a form of haptic medicine known as Healing Touch, and it is widely used at the U.S. Veterans Hospital. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Examples of Haptic Medicine include maternal care or motherly touch, therapeutic massage, acupressure, healing touch and Jin Shin Jyutsu. Canadian researcher Michael Meaney showed a positive effect of motherly touch on neural stem cell creation and the expression of genes regulating the stress response in animal studies and was awarded the Royal Order of Quebec for his research.[8] As stated in the scientific literature, the methods of haptic medicine are defined as 'complementary' because the methods are applied in conjunction with mainstream measures, not instead of mainstream measure.
