Dominic Bonsignore (born 31 July 1983), better known by his stage name Harmini is an influential Rap Artist.[1], Singer, Songwriter, and Actor currently residing in Dallas, Texas. He is best known for his songs "Champion"[2], "If I Go Away", and his album "Mixed Messages".
Early life[edit]
Harmini was born in Elmira, NY, and grew up in the projects of Riverview. He and his brother were raised by a single mother, who was suffering from Tourette’s Syndrome and raising her kids while living off welfare. By the age of ten, Harmini claims to have been using drugs, and was addicted to, or using, up to 8 drugs throughout his Young Adult and Teen years.
Legal problems[edit]
When Harmini was 15, Elmira Police raided his family home for suspicions of Drug Trafficking, and again two years later, this time by Elmira’s S.W.A.T. Team. During his teenage years, Harmini found himself in Jail and Prison, he was on probation four times, and was even on a house-arrest ankle bracelet for a year. He was ordered to stay at Glove House and Rehab multiple times and was hospitalized more than a dozen times, due to overdosing and multiple suicide attempts. He also spent time in various Detention Homes, Drug Programs, and Respite Homes before going to County Jail, and then to a Maximum Security State Psychiatric Penitentiary[3].
Release & Finding Faith[edit]
In the last two months of his incarceration, he was informed that his mother had been diagnosed with Lung Cancer, and just two weeks before he was scheduled for release, she passed away. Harmini’s brother, Anthony, was his support system upon his release, and eventually, they relocated together to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he had a spiritual encounter, and became a firm believer in Jesus Christ during the Summer of 2005. He then decided to use his many gifts, and talents, to spread The Gospel that turned his life around[4][5].
Career[edit]
Harmini was a member of the bilingual Christian Rap group called “O.N.C (Of No Consequence)”. They performed and evangelized to people all over Texas. Their music began to garnish attention in various countries around the world, which gave Harmini a following to begin his solo career. Since the group split up, Harmini has successfully been writing and performing music as a solo artist. He has had music featured in over 10 films.
Life[edit]
Aside from writing and recording music, Harmini is also a Model, Actor, and has Co-Directed films and Co-Produced music. Harmini has been drug-free since 2005 and currently lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife and children[6]
