Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award is awarded annually by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle for her “outstanding achievement during graduate studies in the biological sciences.” The award was endowed in memory of molecular biologist Harold M. “Hal” Weintraub in 2000, five years after his death. Since then, more than 260 awardees were selected.[1]

The award is sponsored by the Basic Sciences Division of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Students are nominated by their department or program chairperson, and submit their CV, a one-page description of their thesis work, and a recommendation letter from their research mentor. The recipients are chosen by a selection committee of the center’s faculty members and students for the quality, originality and significance of their work.[2]

Weintraub awardees travel to Seattle for an award symposium in honour of Harold Weintraub and his commitment to innovative science. Through the award, laureates gain access to an extensive network of scientific excellence.
