Early life[edit]

Born in Paris, France[3] the son of well known Yiddish theater comedian, Schmulik Goldstein, and raised in New York City, Harry began his professional career as an actor at the age of twelve when he was cast in the Broadway show Oliver!. Thus began his journey in show business.

Throughout his teen years Harry appeared in countless commercials and theater projects while pursuing a career as a singer, and musician. As a musician he played clubs in and around NYC. His regular gig was at Brandy’s on the Upper East Side; it is there that he met his wife to be Bonnie.

Bonnie, her two beautiful young daughters’ Tracey and Missy, and Harry all fell in love and began their life together. In March 1975, their little family packed up and made the sojourn west to start anew in California. Knowing there furniture was coming in a few weeks, they had to work fast and get set up. So they did the smart thing and all got agents.

Harry landed a bunch of commercial spots for an east coast food chain while little Tracey and Missy began auditioning too. Harry booked guest roles in MASH, 8 is Enough, Maude and many others. There were roles in films such as The Worlds Greatest Lover, American Family and Carrie.

Missy became the governor’s daughter, Katie, in Benson and Tracey amassed a huge amount of credits culminating in her portrayal of Carol Seaver in the legendary sitcom Growing Pains. Bonnie, meanwhile was the glue of the family. As well as giving birth to two more daughters, Brandy and Jessie. With the eventual adoption of Cassie a few years later, this brought the Gold family to five beautiful daughters.

Career[edit]

As Harry got older and left his juvenile phase, he saw his opportunities dwindling. Feeling lost and frustrated, his wife suggested, that he get it together and do something. She found an ad in one of the trades for a job working at a talent agency.

Harry got himself an appointment and used his guile and industry savvy to charm his way into a job. He soon realized that everything he’d ever done or experienced in his life had put him in this position. He learned the business quickly and began putting together a client list. Deals started to happen and before long the quiet little company he was working for became a bustling enterprise.

His boss attempted to tie him to a long-term contract. Harry didn’t want that so they parted ways. With his client list in tact, he began to seek his future. He planted at his friend Herb Tannen’s agency, but that was not the right fit either. Nothing around town but nothing seemed right.

Formation of his own company[edit]

You can’t say enough about a good woman’s wisdom but it was his wife Bonnie who said, “Open up your own company I believe in you, you’ve got the clients." So in November 1982 Harry Gold and Associates, an agency for adult actors, opened its doors with two employees alongside Harry.

Six months later, two top children’s agents, Ruth Hansen and Joy Stevenson, approached Harry about joining his company. Thus the legendary Youth department at Harry Gold and Associates was born, and still thriving today.[4] Through many name changes have happened over the years, in 2002 the company permanently changed its name to TalentWorks.
