Early life[edit]

His father, Şehzade Mehmed Abdülkerim, was the only son of Şehzade Mehmed Selim, the eldest son of Sultan Abdul Hamid II.They went to Beirut in 1924 when the Ottoman dynasty members were taken abroad. Mehmed Abdülkerim Efendi died in 1935 by marrying in Damascus and leaving two children born in 1930 and 1932 at an early age. After his grandfather Mehmed Selim Efendi passed away in 1937, Harun Osmanoğlu had no one but his mother. The family, who lived abroad during his long exile years, came to Istanbul from Damascus immediately after the dynasty members were allowed to return home.
