History[edit]

In 2013, Cory Reinisch and Dustin Meyer started Harvest Thieves as a side project to their country-rock band, Guns of Navarone.[4] Harvest Thieves received it's name from a phrase in a poem written by Reinisch during his college days in Lubbock, Texas, at Texas Tech University. Early influences for the band include Uncle Tupelo, Gram Parsons, Whiskeytown, Wilco, Old 97s, and Drive-By Truckers.

Enlisting their manager, James Taylor on drums - and recruiting long-time friend James White on lead guitar - Harvest Thieves first released 2013's EP Lightning In a Bottle, recorded at The Shelter Recording Studio.[5]

After additions to the lineup and studio time spent at Estuary Recording Facility, the band released it's first full-length LP, Rival. After the release in January 2016, the album received critical praise from Paste Magazine, The Boot, Lone Star Music Magazine, Austin American Statesman, the Austin Chronicle, and Elmore Magazine.[6][7][8]

Additionally, the band was named the very first "Artist of the Month" for the Austin American Statesman's entertainment section, known as Austin360.[9] The band also garnered artist of the month honors from KUTX, Austin's local NPR-based radio station.[10]

In March 2016, the band recorded a session for Daytrotter, the subscription-based music discovery website in Rock Island, Illinois.[11]

Primary songwriter and lead singer, Cory Reinisch, has performed as an official artist at multiple international festivals including Halifax Pop Explosion in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Folk Alliance in Montreal, Quebec; Quest Festival in Hanoi, Vietnam; and The Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany.[12][13][14][15]

In 2017, Harvest Thieves were cast and appeared in the full-length feature film, Barracuda.[16] The film was released on October 6, 2017, by Orion Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn Films.

In December 2019, Harvest Thieves released the single Mercy Kill (and accompanying video) off of their forthcoming full-length release, As the Sparks Fly Upward.[17]

The band has performed as Official Artists of the South By Southwest music festival multiple times (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020) since their inception and continue to perform regularly throughout the Southern United States.[18][19]
