The Haxo Gambit is a chess opening that begins with the moves 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Bc4 Bc5 5. c3.
After 5. c3, 5...dxc3 is dubious due to 6. Bxf7+ Kxf7 7. Qd5+ Kf8 8. Qxc5+ Qe7 9. Qxe7+ Ngxe7 10. Nxc3, regaining the pawn with a better position. Instead, Black can:
- develop a knight with 4...Nf6, transposing into the Giuoco Piano
- plan to develop a bishop with 4...d6
