Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish is a parish church situated along I. Fernando Street in Barangay Malanday of Valenzuela, Metro Manila, Philippines.
History[edit]
The structure was built on October 17, 1994 to replace the old Sto. Cristo Chapel to accommodate more people in the area of Malanday due to the growing numbers of parishioners and the disturbing noise of the area. The masses at chapel are presided by the priests from San Diego de Alcala Church. Msgr. Epitacio V. Castro makes a recommendation to the Bishop of Malolos to make the church a Quasi-Parish. On June 24, 1997, a priest was placed to take in charge of the continuos constructions of the church. [1]
There were 15 names suggested by the parishioners and later on were trimmed down to 4:
- Parish of Sto. Kristo - it is the patron of the chapel of Malanday
- Parish of Mary, the (multitude of titles) - most of titles of Mary were suggested by the parishioners.
- Parish of St. John the Baptist - the name was suggested by the bishop since the parish was declared a quasi-parish on the 24th of June, feast of St. John the Baptist. But this name never made it.
- Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish - this name was chosen after deliberating and analyzing the other 3 suggested names due to some reasons. [1][2]
The Hearts of Jesus and Mary Quasi-Parish was declared to Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish on the day of June 24, 2001.
Feasts[edit]
The Parish celebrates two feasts, the feast of Malanday every last Sunday of April and the feast of parish every June 24. Morning and Evening Processions and Pontifical High Mass are being organized by the Church
