Ghost Catcher (Chinese: 天师钟馗) is a 1994 mythological Taiwan television series directed by Ju Jueliang and starring Jin Chao-chun, Fan Hongxuan, Chen Tianwen, Fu Juan, Tian Niu. The production cost of this drama exceeded the record in Taiwan before 1994, reaching 60 million Taiwan dollars, or about 20 million Hong Kong dollars.

Synopsis[edit]

Zhong Kui is a well-known ghost hunter in China, authorized by the king to take care of the injustices in the world. This play is based on Zhong Kui, bringing out these bizarre stories about ghosts, foxes, and monsters. The 5 units of "Tian Shi Zhong Kui" Singapore edition, Yang Guifei , Sanhui Bao Qingtian , A Handful of Snow, Jiangshan Beauty, and June Snow.

Unit 1: Yang guifei[edit]

The story of Zhong Kui's process of being canonized as a general of Fu Mo after being victimized by Emperor Ming of Tang and assisting Concubine Yang to escape to Dongying to enjoy his old age. In this unit, Tian Niu plays Yang Guifei.

Unit 2: Three Meeting Bao Qingtian[edit]

A gentle and lovely woman, Liu Yeqin ( Guo Shuxian ), and her brother Xiangsailu 's childhood sweetheart, love each other . Unfortunately, Ye Qin was raped by her master ( Weng Jiaming ). Afterwards, Ye Qin felt ashamed of his brother, so after killing the master, she hanged herself . After learning the truth, Sailu was very depressed and intended to die in love, but was stopped by the spirits of Zhong Kui and Ye Qin. Zhong Kui wanted to help Ye Qin return the Yang, but Ye Qin felt that his body had been defiled by the Master, and he dared not face the race again and refused to return the Yang. Sailu was negatively tired of the world due to unsuccessful suicide. Ye Qin saw Sai Lu's obsession with her, and decided to pay her back. Zhong Kui ordered Sailu to keep Ye Qin's body for seven or forty-nine days. How did he know that the real master Ye Qin Wolong used it as a stalker, entangled in Ye Qin's soul. Fortunately, Zhong Kui eliminated him in time and helped Bao Zheng find out that the murderer of Wolong was his wife Han Dieer (Hong Zhaorong). Ye Qin finally got rid of the crime of killing the teacher and returned to Yang smoothly.

Unit 3: A Handful of Snow[edit]

This unit is adapted from the legendary " A Handful of Snow " by Li Yu, a drama writer in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, and the traditional Peking Opera repertoire " Da Yan Song (alias Kaishan Mansion)". Ming Dynasty Prime Minister Yan Song and his son framed and murdered the Taichang Temple Zhengqing Mo Huaigu family for an ancient jade cup "a handful of snow". Tang Qin, a student of Mo Huaigu, also ungrateful and persecuted him, and the nostalgic daughter Xueyan killed Tang Qin for revenge. After Tang Qin's death, he complained to Zhong Kui , which led Zhong Kui to expose their ugly crimes.

Unit 4: Jiangshan Beauty[edit]

This unit is adapted from the folk tale "You Long Xi Feng".

The Zhengde Emperor wanted to marry the civil girl Li Feng into the palace, but was stalked by Empress Zheng , killing the academician He Huai who was in charge of this task. He Huai's soul avenged Zhong Kui's grievances, which led to a series of palace conspiracies.

Unit 5: June Snow[edit]

This unit borrows some of the characters from the Yuan Dynasty Guan Hanqing 's masterpiece "The Immortal Dou E ", and is adapted on this basis.
