Heavy Jack is an indie rock band formed in 2005 and remained active until 2013.

After calling a hiatus in 2013 the core members continued playing music under various names until reforming again as The Heavy Jack 3 in 2016 with the release of What Is Love in August 2016.

At some point in 2014 an opportunity presented itself for THE HEAVY JACK 3 to team up with Brian Griffiths and perform at a show for Some Other Guys and in the lead up to the show, several jam sessions were recorded in the basement of our last house in Calgary Alberta. On June 17 2017 they released one of these tracks to Soundcloud - a cover of Bob Dylan's - I'll Be Your Baby Tonight. https://soundcloud.com/theheavyjack3/ill-be-your-baby-tonight

History[edit]

2005–2006: Soup[edit]

In September 2005, Heavy Jack recorded at Turtle Studios in White Rock, British Columbia, to start production for their debut album. The band originally recorded 27 songs off the floor, but only the five best tracks from the session were released as the Soup EP. It was around this time that Heavy Jack began preparing the songs for what eventually would become Heavy Jack - Multiply.

2007-2008: Multiply[edit]

Around the middle of 2006, Heavy Jack went to Digital Sound Magic to get Soup mastered for replication. Richard Dolmat, after hearing Soup, approached Heavy Jack to record a full-length album. In 2007, Heavy Jack finished off the arrangements for the songs and started recording at Digital Sound Magic.[1] Early on in the sessions, Richard Dolmat asked to sign on as co-producer in addition to being the engineer. Although their debut album took only 90 hours to track and mix[citation needed], a series of events with Jon Falk (including a broken finger, sprained ankle, and an appendectomy) delayed the process with sessions extending into 2007 and 2008. In May 2008, Heavy Jack Multiply was finally mastered and ready for production.

Although the songs were recorded, an album cover had yet to be designed at this point. Heavy Jack contacted Duke Floss, a friend of the band, to help create the cover for the album. Floss proceeded to design the band's album cover and website page.

The album artwork was finished early and Heavy Jack went to the local company Spin Digital Media for production of the CD. Multiply was released July 4, 2008, and the entire album debuted on Audio-Surf Radio that weekend.

The band has started work on their untitled follow-up to Multiply, but have no plans for a release date.

2009: Re-Release[edit]

Feedback for the band was mostly positive[2] from the Independent Press on the Internet, as well as fans on music websites sites such as StereoFame.

On February 5, 2009 Heavy Jack re-released their album for free download on their website - in 2013 the album was removed from free download.

2012: Original Copy[edit]

Heavy Jack released their follow-up album Original Copy in May 2012 - the album is currently being remixed and will be available at some point again.

Original Copy was self-recorded over a four-year period after the release of Multiply and was available as a free download due to the use of samples from movies and for featuring 4 cover songs. The track listing is as follows:

  1. Dan Aykroyd Introduction
  2. Rated R
  3. Poor Boy Productions Presents Original Copy
  4. All Your Lovin' (I Miss Lovin')
  5. John Cusack (The Fear)
  6. Six Blade Knife
  7. Winston
  8. The News
  9. The Twist
  10. Bodysnatchers
  11. It's A Dream (Everything)

2014[edit]

During the spring of 2014 the core members of Heavy Jack rehearsed with Brian Griffiths of The Big Three for a performance at the Cantos National Music Centre in Calgary Alberta. These sessions were recorded and currently being mixed for release. On June 17 2017 they released one of the songs, a cover of Bob Dylan's - I'll Be Your Baby Tonight.

2015-2016[edit]

The band moved out to the Greater Toronto Area for work at the start of 2015 and have since reformed under the new name The Heavy Jack 3.

In 2016 The Heavy Jack 3 released their 3rd album What Is Love - which saw some good local press with The Scene Magazine - http://thescenemagazine.ca/the-heavy-jack-3-what-is-love-album-review/

2017[edit]

At the start of 2017, Adam Falk opened up the sessions recorded with Brian Griffiths and began re-tracking vocals and adding overdubs for an 8-song album to be released sometime, on June 17 2017 a single cover of Bob Dylan's I'll Be Your Baby Tonight was released to Soundcloud.
