Helios Seet[1] is a Malaysian fashion designer. He is known for his earthy-toned rustic avant-garde style. He won the prize of Modern Chinese Design Award - Fashion Design Category in 2014, at Beijing China.[2]
Career[edit]
Helios Seet received his education in Textile and Fashion Design from Malaysian Institute of Art in 2016. During his studies he was already designing clothes for his brand which selling under contracted showroom in China. Also while in school, Seet's graduate collection was selected and shown at Malaysian Institute of Art 50th anniversary gala night.
Since graduating Helios Seet has been presenting his collections each year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Helios Seet collaborated with Malaysian artist Ah Piao in 2017 and 2019, on his art-fashion crossover installation for the collection fashion shows for 2018 and 2020 collection that feature both emerging and established artist from Malaysia and abroad. He has also collaborated with with Malaysian ethnic wear designer Kenny Loh[3] on hand-beaded shoes for Helios Seet, 2022 The 6th collection.
Helios Seet designs are known for their rustic, fluid characteristics, by experimenting natural dyed and digital print, the use of low saturation colours, and heavily hand-crafted techniques given them the exotic vibes.[4] In the Episode 273: The Rusticity & Nature of Helios Seet[5], an BFM interview, Helios Seet has characterized her own brand as "Timeless, rustic, and philosophy[6]". Some of the clients and medias described his philosophy as Wabi-Sabi or Zen, because contrary to the standards in the fashion industry, Helios Seet imports the fabrics in small orders, and reuse certain plain fabric in different by different dyed or surface design implemented, so the brand shown its conscious to the society and environment. Since 2020 (2021 The 5th Collection), Helios Seet present his collection in digital fashion show form due to the pandemic occurred .
Seet's consistently input his unique aesthetic not only in fashion design, but also working on lifestyle and interior decoration for a luxury apartment at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Residence, fashion showroom windows display and cocktail events.
