History
Helltrench was created on the 5th of March 2023[1], under the name of HellCirkus in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by mother and son, Laurie and Nikolai Trinchero. Helltrench was originally called HellCirkus but changed it’s name due to it sounding too similar to another band’s name, it was then renamed to Forest of Hell due to Rio’s nature and violence, however the name was too long and eventually the band settled for the name Helltrench.[2]
Isolation (2023)
Isolation was the first song ever recorded by Helltrench, it marked the beginning as they were still largely experimenting with incorporating different elements of other metal subgenres. It was recorded and produced in the band's home and was distributed as an MP3 audio file. Isolation was released on March 30th, 2023[3]
Helltrench and Freedom is Slavery (2023-present)
After Isolation was released, the band started to record demos of certain songs they had written. In June 2023 Helltrench began working on their debut album Freedom is Slavery with many lyrics being written that year, however rehearsals for the album would only start the following year. Rehearsal sessions for Freedom is Slavery officially commenced on May 2024, after their first rehearsal Laurie would take on the duties of backing vocals. September 28th 2024 would mark the band's first concert, with Zeca Mattos as a guest performing bass during the entire show, the show was recorded by Rafael Miranda, who helped with setting up that show. In late 2024 Nikolai and Laurie decided to record an EP featuring songs that would later be featured on their debut album, as a way to present something thus enhancing the possibilities of getting to play more shows.
Recording for this EP happened in late 2024 and early 2025 with it being released on January 28th 2025.[4] In April of that year they would embark on their first tour labeled the “Insubordination Tour”, playing in underground venues such as Garage Grindhouse[5]. They played at the 100 bands festival in July[6][7] marking an important step in their career. They would also play at Play Fast or Die 2 in September, marking an important show with their highest attendance to date. They would perform as a trio once more on September 28th 2025, one full year after their first show, with Rafael Miranda on bass. During August of 2025 they would enter to studio to start recording their debut album, Freedom is Slavery, this would lead to one recording session in August, recording 9 songs, with the other half of the album still being recorded. Due to the lack of a bass player, bass duties were handled by Nikolai, and he would also handle both lead and rhythm guitar duties.
