Hennadiy Vladyslavovych Butkevych (Ukrainian: Генадій Владиславович Буткевич) is a Ukrainian entrepreneur and the owner of the leading chain of grocery stores ATB-Market.

Biography[edit]

Hennadiy Butkevych was born on 27 May 1958 in Dnipro, Ukraine.

He graduated from the Dnipro Engineer and Architecture Institute in 1980 and Oles Honchar Dnipro National University and holds an MS degree in Engineering.

During the Soviet rule in Ukraine, he worked as a police officer in the organised crime control department.[1]

Business[edit]

In the 1990s, Butkevych joined the corporate sector.

In 1993, he became a co-owner of Agrotechbusiness trading company. He joined the company after Yaroslav Korchevskiy (ex-banker and mayor of Kamianske) left it.

In 1995-1997, he ran the security service for Yuliya Tymoshenko’s United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU).[1]

In 1998, Butkevych, along with his partners Yevhen Yermak and Viktor Karachun, registered the ATB corporation (abbreviation for AgroTechBusiness).

Butkevych, Yermak, and Karachun are still equal-share co-owners of ATB.[2]

ATB[edit]

ATB corporation works in such business sectors as assets management, retail, food production and sale, services in sports and recreation. The company employs more than 25 thousand people. The corporation owns one of the largest logistics hubs in Ukraine with goods turnover of over 70 thousand tonnes per month.

ATB chain of discount stores with the market share of 3.87% ranked second among TOP-5 retail chains of Ukraine, according to data of GT Partners Ukraine consultancy for 2010. In 2010, ATB ranked first by the number of points of sale (POS), in line with the Retail Chains Rating prepared by GT Partners Ukraine. The ATB-Market company entered the Top-500 of leading companies of the Central and Eastern Europe by total revenue for 2009, according to the report by Deloitte. Turnover of ATB retail chain for 2010 exceeded UAH 12.96 billion (incl. VAT), for 2011 — UAH 18.055 billion, for 2012 — about UAH 26 billion, for 2015 – turnover amounted to UAH 46.670 billion (incl. VAT).[3]

On 15 February 2018, Butkevych joined the Board of Directors at Trident Acquisitions Corp., a US-based company traded at NASDAQ stock market aimed at investing into oil and gas sector of Eastern Europe. Butkevych owns 10% of the company’s share and has the right to influence the selection of Ukrainian projects, in which the US company will invest.

Financial state[edit]

Hennadiy Butkevych is listed on the list of the wealthiest citizens of Dnipro.[4]

In 2015, according to Forbes, his fortune amounted to $155 million (29th place in the ranking of TOP-100 wealthiest entrepreneurs of Ukraine and 29th place in the ranking of TOP-100 richest businessmen of Ukraine) [5]

Hobbies[edit]

In 1998, Hennadiy founded “Dnipro Open” amateur tennis tournament, which was organised for ten years in a row at the tennis courts of Voskhod sports club and was timed to Butkevych’s birthday.[6]

Being a votary of hunting, he leases out hunting lands (8,000 ha in area) in Ivankiv Raion of Kyiv Oblast.

Family[edit]

Butkevych is married and has two children.

His wife is Valentyna Fedorivna Butkevych (Vlasova), born in Dnipro on 9 January 1958. She graduated from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University in 1980 — Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and is currently a housewife.

Their older daughter, Anna Butkevych, is a model and a private notary.[7]

Their younger daughter, Daria Butkevych, is a student who is engaged in equestrian sport. [8]
