Hesam Abedini (Persian: حسام عابدینی born 24 August 1992) is an Iranian-American composer, vocalist، improviser, and filmmaker.[1]
He was born in Tehran, Iran and received his high school diploma in Piano Performance from the Tehran Music Conservatory. He has also studied at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan. In 2010 He moved to the United State earned his Bachelor of Arts in composition with honor from University of California, Irvine. He studied composition with Lei Liang, Chinary Ung, and Anthony Davis. In 2017 he became a PhD student in Integrated Composition, Improvisation and Technology (ICIT) at the University of California, Irvine where he studies with Christopher Dobrian.[2]
Classical Persian Music, Hossein Omoumi, From Isfahan to Irvine, was directed by Hesam Abedini and supported by the National Endowments for the Arts (NEA), Documentary Educational Resources, and Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute.[3]
In 2018, he published Cipher, as a bandleader, vocalist, and composer with Sibarg Ensemble. In the same year, Hesam Abedini was named as the winner of the New Mexico Contemporary Ensemble’s annual call for scores.[4]
In 2020, his String Quartet No. 2 was published in an album titled Kooch-e Khamân, which is a live recording by Del Sol String Quartet playing compositions of seven Iranian-American living composers.[5]
