Hetman Uneraser – is a shareware program that recovers deleted data, allowing the user to view a list of files that were deleted from a logical-disk drive, and save the recovered files in a user-specified folder. This program not only restores accidentally deleted files, but also files lost due to the formatting of data carriers, virus “attacks” and software failures.[1]

This utility supports FAT 12/16/32, and NTFS 1.0/1.2/3.0/3.1 file systems, andenables recovery of themain file formats - documents made by Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint (DOC, XLS, PPT, ONE, PDF, RTF), as well as digital images (CR2, CRW, JPEG, JPG, RAW, PSD, CDR, BMP) and video and audio files (AVI, DAT, MKV, MOV, MPG, VOB, WMV, M4P, MP3, WAV, WMA).[1]

    The algorithm of the program[edit]

After starting, the program performs a preliminary scan of all connected storage media, and creates an initial list of deleted partitions and files. The program window contains three main panels –a list of logical drives and folders,a panel that displays detected files, and a block panel to preview a file and display a list of files to restore. However, a preliminary analysis often cannot find all files that have been deleted from a disk, and so the program offers an in-depth analysis feature. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the search is performed on file signatures, but in doing so, information is lost about the name, size, and file creation dates.[2]

The search for deleted files can also be run from a wizard, which can be customized by type and size of files. The wizard suggests to choose one saving method out of four (save to hard disk, burn to CD/DVD, create a virtual ISO image, save to the Internet via FTP server). The utility also provides a preview that can be used before the recovery of images and the files of the office programs.[3]
