Highball is a media-services provider with headquarters in Toronto, founded in 2017 by Melissa D'Agostino and Matt Campagna, and officially launched in 2018. Highball's primary business is an online streaming media service offering a curated library of movies and series that have been selected at film festivals[1] such as TIFF, Venice Film Festival, Sundance, Raindance, After Dark, Dragon Con, Heartland, imagineNATIVE.[2]
As of October 2018, Highball offered 30 titles, with subscribers worldwide. Highball began distributing films in cinemas in November 2018, with the first title The Drawer Boy based on Michael Healey's play The Drawer Boy, being made available to stream after the theatrical run.[3].
Highball has been approved by the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO), making content distributed by the service eligible for the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.[4] Upon Highball's simultaneous day-and-date release of The Drawer Boy to theatres and online, the film received positive reviews in The Globe and Mail[5], Now Magazine[6], and on CBC Radio [7]
Services
Highball uses multiple video on demand models on the streaming service: transactional rental and purchase of individual titles, as well as subscription allowing subscribers access to titles.[8] Users can stream films and television series via the Highball website on personal computers, or on a variety of supported platforms, including smartphones and tablets, digital media players, and smart TVs.[9]
