The Highlander Brigade (abbreviation: HB) is the biggest supporters' group for the NorthEast United football team.[1][2]

The Brigade

The Northeast of India is considered the hotbed of football in India, and NorthEast United FC sees a very good crowd in every home match at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. Highlander Brigade is the biggest and loudest supporters' group of NorthEast United. The name Highlander Brigade comes from the word "Highlanders", the term given to the people of Northeast by mainland Indians. Established in 2017 just before the start of 2017-18 Indian Super League season, the group has 500+ registered members. The group has become synonymous with unveiling large and creative tifos and banners at home as well as away stadiums.

The Brigade has also time and again shown its support for the Indian national football team.

Initial Days

The supporters' group can be traced back to its roots, where it was merely a WhatsApp group formed out of a handful of followers of a Facebook page "NorthEast United FC Fans". They not only support NorthEast United but also support the Indian national team.

Before the fourth season of the Indian Super League, keeping an eye on the occasion, a major chunk of the group members decided to meet and attempt to do something big. And under the tutelage of key members helming certain responsibilities, the Brigade grew and spread out rapidly.

Even after a lackluster fourth season for the club, the Highlander Brigade could be seen cheering them on with the red-white-black flags and banners thumping down the beats in a raging winter cold under the lights. Therefore, they were received fondly by the club and the players.

Other Activities

The Highlander Brigade host football-related events in the city.[3][4] To ensure that the football culture remains proactive in the city, the brigade plans to indulge in more fan activities in the future as well.
