Hiperson (海朋森) (sometimes spelled Hai Peng Sen) is a Chinese band, formed in Chengdu, China in 2012. The band is characterized by their blend of post-punk and post-rock with traditional Chinese folk music and spoken word poetry.
History
The band members met while studying at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu in 2012.[1] The band's name comes from a combination of the English words "hi" and "person".[2] In 2015, they released their first album, No Need for Another History, which was recorded at the Psychic Kong Studio in Beijing and produced by P.K. 14 guitarist Yang Haisong. This album was followed by She Came Back From the Square in 2018, which was recorded at a home studio. The EP Four Seasons was also recorded in a similar setting.
In 2020, the band produced and released Bildungsroman, recorded at Hansa Studios. The album was accompanied by music videos for the songs "Spring Breeze"[3] and "Our Ballad".[4] Throughout the course of the album, Bildungsroman tells the narrative of a woman's emotional journey after a breakup. The album's name comes from 'Bildungsroman', a term for coming-of-age literature.
Hiperson cites She Tou, P.K. 14, Fugazi, and Talking Heads as music acts they look up to.
