Hippocrates George Apostle (01 January 1910 – 18 July 1990) was an American academic, classicist, historian, and translator of classical works.
Biography
He was born on 01 January 1910 in Tyrnavos, Greece.[1][2]
He moved to New York City with his family when he was 12 years old.[3]
He died on 18 July 1990. He is survived by his wife and three children.[4]
Education
He completed his BA and MA in mathematics from Columbia University.[5]
He later his MA and Phd in philosophy from Harvard University.[6]
Career
He taught at the West Virginia Wesleyan College, University of Rochester, Amherst College and the University of Chicago.[7]
He became a permanent faculty at Grinnell College in 1948. He taught both mathematics and philosophy at Grinnell College.[8]
In 1961, he was appointed as the Myra Steele Professor of Mathematics, a post he held until his retirement from teaching in 1978.[9]
