History of rugby union matches between Ireland and Namibia
Since 1991, Ireland and Namibia have competed against each other in four rugby union matches, with each side having won two matches.[1][2] The even split of this series is relatively surprising given Ireland is an established tier 1 nation while Namibia only gained independence from South Africa in 1990 with many of the best Namibian players representing the Springboks up until that point.[3] Ireland winger Keith Crossan noted that several of the Irish players became ill with food poisoning prior to the first two test matches in 1991. Remarkably up until Ireland convincingly gained revenge with 64–7 victory in the 2003 World Cup group stage match, Namibia were the only nation to hold a 100% record against Ireland.[4][5]
