Winner of the 2017 Susan Glaspell award, named 'Best of the Fringe' by The Stage and a 2019 Sell-Out Show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and included on The Kilroys' List 2020.[1]

Legendary Susan Stroman called Hitler's Tasters, "One of the best evenings I’ve spent in the theater in a long time. It was interesting, entertaining, upsetting and made you think."[2]

Productions[3][edit]

H*tler's Tasters had its World Premiere at Centenary Stage (Hackettstown, NJ) in April 2018. The production was directed by Sarah Norris. The play premiered in New York City in October 2018 at IRT Theater.[4] It was directed again by Sarah Norris and produced by New Light Theater Project.[5] The cast included Hallie Griffin as Leisel, MaryKathryn Kopp as Hilda, Kaitlin Page Longoria as Anna, Hannah Mae Sturges as Margot.

In the summer of 2019, this same production went on to perform at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts (Skokie, IL), 59E59 Theaters (New York, NY), and at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it had a sold-out run and was listed on the Best of Fringe.

The play opened at Electric Lodge (Venice, CA) in March 2020 and closed the next night due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They quickly pivoted to online performances for the duration of quarantine.

In September 2021, the cast and creative team reassembled to perform at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY and at Pendragon Theater in Lake Saranac, New York.An Off-Broadway engagement of the play[6] (directed by Sarah Norris; starring Hallie Griffin, MaryKathryn Kopp, Kaitlin Page Longoria, Hannah Mae Sturges) will premiere in April 2022 at Theatre Row.

Critical Response[7][edit]

In reviewing the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe production, Jane Prinsley of The Jewish Chronicle wrote: “Indeed, this might be a historical story, but it was the freshest drama I saw all Fringe… packed with dangerous charm… With its nuanced portrayal of radicalization, idolatry and the banality of evil, perhaps it will become a modern Fringe classic, providing a strong message for our times."[8]

Critic Addison Waite writes in The Spy In The Stalls that H*tler's Tasters is the “Mean Girls/Third Reich crossover we never knew we needed. It’s enthralling, unbelievable, and inescapably relevant [...] Brooks’ razor sharp humour pulls laughter from an astounded audience [...] You’ll remember this one.”[9]

Actor Michael Sheen called the play “Funny, disturbing, [with] great performances all around."

Stephanie Colburn for Chicago Splash Magazine wrote: "The story has packed a wallop [...] Kaitlin Paige Longoria, MaryKathryn Kopp, Hallie Griffin, and Hannah Mae Sturges portray characters rich enough to haunt the audience long after the show is over [...] Michelle Kholos Brooks' judicious balance of adolescent wit and humor in the face of social compliance and unrelenting horror makes the play’s journey bearable."[10]
