Holland was an American heavy metal band that formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1984.[1] The short-lived band comprised vocalist Tommy Holland, guitarist Michael Angelo Batio, bassist Joey Cetner and drummer Brad Rohrssen.

History[edit]

Holland, who was a member of Steppenwolf for a short period between 1979 and 1980 and released Get Up with The B'zz in 1982, would recruit Batio (then still a session musician) to form his own band in 1984. Shortly after releasing Little Monsters in 1985, the band split up and members concentrated on other projects.

Batio would form Los Angeles, CA based metal band Nitro in 1988 and release a pair of albums on Rhino/Rampage before going solo. Also in 1988, Joey Cetner would team up with vocalist/guitarist Kevin Lee and others as Kevin Lee & The Lonesome City Kings. The group released their MCA debut Restless in 1993 [1], featuring Holland's Brad Rohrssen on drums.[2] Tom Holland went on to front a number of bands, including Raw Dogs, Tommy Holland & Bad Blood and House of Holland.[3]

In 1998 a compilation album, Wake Up the Neighbourhood, was released, which featured songs from the Little Monsters sessions, including five which appeared on the album itself and five other previously unreleased tracks. Shortly after the initial pressing, another track from those sessions, "Nobody Else" was added as a bonus track. In 2003, Little Monsters was re-issued on CD by Wounded Bird.

Holland have reunited sporadically since their initial break-up, including a September 2013 benefit gig for drummer Brad Rohrssen who was diagnosed with oral cancer in 2013. Rohrssen was featured in a 2017 video for Forward Science where he told his story in order to spread awareness about the disease.[4]

Popular culture[edit]

The song "Wake Up The Neighbourhood" was featured on the official soundtrack for the film Girls Just Want to Have Fun starring Shannen Doherty, Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt.[5]
