The Hoods Hoods Klan (Russian: Капюшоны Капюшоны клан», Ukrainian: Клан капюшонів»), is a legion of an anti-fascist group, formed in 2014 but united in March 2022 to protect Ukraine against the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian war. It consists of Ukrainian football fans in support of the war effort, as well as other Ukrainian volunteers who have not previously been members of military formations.[1] Hooligan firms from sides like Dynamo Kyiv, once rivals to the Hoods Hoods Klan told filmmaker Jake Hanrahan in his Popular Front documentary that they have now united against a common enemy following the Russian invasion.[2]
The Hoods Hoods Klan uses a white, blue and red flag bearing the logo of the Football Club Arsenal Kyiv, also seen on their insignia, sometimes substituted for a yellow arm band.
History
In 2014, the Arsenal Kyiv ultras called a truce with neo-Nazis and collaborated with “national anarchists” (fascists) during the Euromaidan. According to a member of the Autonomous Worker’s Union in Kyiv interviewed by CrimethInc “Antifascist football fans of ‘Arsenal-Kiev’ decided to join the protest against police brutality. ‘Arsenal-Kiev’ fans made a call for all anarchists and anti-fascists to join their struggle.”[3]
In 2022, the Hoods Hoods Klan joined the Resistance Committee, considering themselves “the space for dialogue and coordination of anarchist, libertarian and anti-authoritarian initiatives within Ukraine," the Hoods Hoods Klan have organized themselves under the Resistance Committee as an anti-authoritarian umbrella group within the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) of Ukraine.[4]
Ukrainian anti-fascists adopted the flag of the Football Club Arsenal Kyiv, now used by the Hoods Hoods Klan in support of the war effort, using the motto "We don't want your love, We don't need your respect"[5] The Hoods Hoods Klan was formed by supporters of the Football Club Arsenal Kyiv[6], consisting of over 100 people[7], who voluntarily join the Ukrainian war effort to protect Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine in the Russo-Ukrainian war. According to a battalion commander “Now our enemy is not other Ukrainians ... we were strong in football hooliganism and now we’ll be a good war unit.”[2][8]
