Howard Sasportas (April 12, 1948 - May 12, 1992) was an American astrologer, one of the leading astrological figures of the twentieth century.

Biography[edit]

Howard Sasportas was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on April 12, 1948. He initially received a MA in Humanistic Psychology at Antioch University in New York. In 1973, he then moved to London and began to study astrology at the Faculty of Astrological Studies. In 1979 he received the FAS's Gold Medal. In 1983, together with Liz Greene, he founded the Centre for Psychological Astrology. It became one of the most influential schools of its kind worldwide. Apart from being greatly admired as a teacher, Sasportas was also a productive author whose writings (including The Twelve Houses and The Gods of Change) were characterised by his clear and insightful language. In his writings he often referred to the ancient Greek myths. The ability of astrology to overcome some of the wide-spread prejudices in the English-speaking world in the 1980s and 1990s is due in part to his efforts.
