Hughes-Castell is a specialist legal and compliance recruitment company, formed in 1985 in London and headquartered in Hong Kong, with other offices in Singapore, Beijing and Shanghai. It was the first legal recruitment consultancy to specialise on placements in Hong Kong.[2]
Hughes-Castell is one of only a handful of wholly foreign owned recruitment firms fully licensed to operate in PRC. Hughes-Castell (Beijing) Ltd was founded in 2005 and the Shanghai office was established in 2011.
History[edit]
In 1985, Hughes-Castell Ltd was founded in Bolt Court, London by Helen Castell to provide recruitment and executive search services exclusively for lawyers in the United Kingdom.
In 1986, Hughes-Castell (Hong Kong) Ltd was established to extend legal recruitment and executive search service to clients and candidates in Asia.
In June 1988, the Law Society of Hong Kong has published the first Hong Kong LawList (formerly called List of Solicitors' firms). It is an annual publication of providing list of the registered solicitors and law firms in Hong Kong. Hughes-Castell was the main sponsor for supporting the project from that onward. The publishing of Hong Kong LawList has been stopped in 2015.
In 1995, Vedior NV purchased Hughes-Castell Ltd so since then Hughes-Castell (Hong Kong) Ltd became part of Vedior’s global recruitment network.
In 2001, Hughes-Castell's Singapore office was established as the regional headquarters for the ASEAN countries.
In 2005, Hughes-Castell (Beijing) Ltd was established. It is a fully licensed international recruitment firm to operate in China.
In 2007, Randstad and Vedior merged their operations. The combined group, known as the Randstad Holding, became the second largest recruitment agency in the world, of which Hughes-Castell (Hong Kong) then became a subsidiary.
In 2011, Hughes-Castell completed a management buyout[3] which resulted in the managing director, Doreen Jaeger-Soong,[4] becoming the owner and company Chairman.[5] Later in the same year, the Shanghai office of Hughes-Castell (Beijing) Ltd was established.
