Hugo Filipe Carvalho Oliveira (born 22 June 1979) is a Portuguese goalkeeper coach for English club Hull City, and a former Portuguese national team coach.

He was recognized by the several improvements in high class goalkeepers, such as Jan Oblak, Júlio César Espíndola, Ederson Moraes and Fernando Prass.

Coaching career[edit]

Oliveira began his playing career as a goalkeeper at U.S.C. Paredes in 1993 and ended his career to become a goalkeeper coach at Paredes in 2002. Then, he joined Rebordosa AC in 2003.

In 2004, he signed with F.C. Marco where he became the goalkeeper coach and coordinator of the goalkeeping department at the club. He stayed with Marco until next season when Gil Vicente F.C. signed the Portuguese goalkeeper coach after great performances by his goalkeeper Beto Pimparel. Oliveira stayed with Gil Vicente until 2008.

Oliveira's work gained recognition and he was then recruited in 2009 by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), where he qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as part of Carlos Queiroz staff in the AA team and also part of the FPF football development program in the U20 and U17 team, the "In to the Future" Project.

Two years later, Oliveira was signed by S.L. Benfica,[1] with whom he won eight titles: three Portuguese leagues, one Portuguese cup and four League Cups. He was responsible for Jan Oblak raise to stardom[2] and has worked with goalkeepers such as Eduardo Carvalho, Júlio César, Artur Moraes, Paulo Lopes, Ederson Moraes (called up to Brazil national team with only 22 years old).

In S.L. Benfica, he created and developed the "Eagle One" Goalkeeping Department and the Decision Goalkeeper Profile to all club teams.

On 5 January 2017, he became the goalkeeping coach for English club Hull City.[3]
