Humans of Thimphu (HOT) is a photoblog of street portraits and interviews of people collected on the streets of Thimphu City, Bhutan.[1]
Started on October 22nd by street photographer and video content creator Tandin Phubz[2], Humans of Thimphu has developed a large following on Facebook and Instagram.[3] The Humans of Thimphu team documents the lives of a wide range of individuals that make Thimphu the stunning and joyful city that it is and showcases them to the world through social media posts and a website.[4] As of February 2020, more than three hundred stories had been shared through this storytelling platform.[citation needed]
Development of Humans of Thimphu
Inspired by the Humans of New York (HONY) and Humans of Bombay (HOB) website, Tandin Phubz started Humans of Thimphu (HOT) by travelling around Thimphu and asking people questions about their lives and for consent to take and share their photos and their responses to his page.[5] It was said that many people rejected his requests as people thought it was strange as it was happening for the first time. Phubz then asked his friend to be the first person for his site so that it could motivate him and others to share their stories.[6]
By November 2020, Humans of Thimphu was moved from a Facebook Page to humansofthimphu.com to reach a wider audience outside of the social media world.
By October 2021, Humans of Thimphu celebrated an anniversary with more than 50,000+ followers on Social Media.[7]
