History[edit]

Hydroviv was founded by Eric Roy, a Ph.D. Chemist as a charitable response to the Flint Lead Crisis in 2015. Hydroviv was written about by The Chicago Tribune[1] and BBC[2] as the first water filter company to develop and donate high-capacity lead removal filters to families & child-centric organizations in Flint.

Dr. Roy started Hydroviv in 2015, where he ran the bootstrapped company from his apartment in Washington DC where he also built the filters.

In 2017 he pitched his custom water filter concept at Tech Crunch DC where he won[3].

On October 15 2019, Dr. Roy was called as an expert witness[4] before the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight in a hearing entitled: Addressing the Lead Crisis Through Innovation and Technology. This hearing addressed the lead crisis, especially in Newark, New Jersey.[5]

Shark Tank[edit]

Hydroviv's pitch aired on Season 10 of Shark Tank, on April 14, 2019, and negotiated a deal[6] with Mark Cuban, who praised Hydroviv’s charitable roots as “doing well by doing good.”

Charitable Efforts[edit]

Hydroviv is actively partnering with Amariyana Copeny, better known as "Little Miss Flint," to bring effective drinking filters to communities nationwide that are impacted by poor water quality.[7][8]

With the help of Little Miss Flint and other partner organizations, filters have been distributed at no cost to residents of Flint Michigan[9], Wilmington, NC[10], Chicago, IL, and Memphis, TN.
