The Hyundai Portico is a compact crossover larger than both the Santa Fe and Veracruz, and will share the Sonata platform. It may be built in Montgomery, Alabama. Originally shown as a concept vehicle at the 2001 Chicago Auto Show, AutoWeek reports it is slated to go into production in 2001.

The concept features Hyundai's Lambda DOHC V10 mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. It also has a hybrid powertrain, with electric motors powering both front and rear wheels, making it an AWD vehicle. The Portico was styled by Hyundai's Advanced Design Team from South Korea.
