Minnesota United Strike
On October 7, 2023, members of IATSE Local 745 who staffed Minnesota United's in-house game-day production at Allianz Field conducted a one-day strike amid first-contract negotiations. The action coincided with the club's final regular-season home match against the LA Galaxy and resulted in the game not being carried on Apple TV's MLS Season Pass, with only limited in-stadium production.[5][6][7]
In February 2024, MNUFC and IATSE Local 745 agreed to a three-year contract through December 2026.[8]
Minnesota Timberwolves
In February 2016, IATSE Local 745 filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to represent the in-house audio-visual crew responsible for the scoreboard and video operations at the Target Center, home of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx. In March 2016, Regional Director Martin Osthus ruled that the workers were not employees but independent contractors, and ineligible to organize a union.[9][10]
IATSE appealed to the full NLRB in Washington, D.C. In August 2017, the Board determined that the workers were employees rather than independent contractors, making them eligible to unionize. [11]A subsequent union election was held in October 2017, and IATSE failed 20 - 13.[2]
In October 2024, the crew again filed for an NLRB election after requesting but not receiving voluntary recognition from team management.[12]On December 10, 2024, the election results were certified, with 24 votes in favor of union representation and 17 opposed.[13] This outcome made the group the second audio-visual crew in Minnesota professional sports to unionize, following the Minnesota United.[14]
In May 2025, a three-year collective bargaining agreement was ratified through September 30, 2028.[15]
