The National Institute for Research in Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE) is a public scientific and technical research establishment in France.
History
Created on January 1, 2020, INRAE was formed by the merger of INRA, the National Institute for Agricultural Research, and IRSTEA, the National Research Institute of Science and Technology for the Environment and Agriculture[1].
INRAE's mission is to organize, coordinate, and perform research activities (scientific or technological) in the domains of agriculture, food, forestry, environment, water, biodiversity, bio-economy, circular economy, and sustainable management of land.[2].
Organization
INRAE has 18 research centers in France (in Antilles-Guyane, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Bretagne-Normandie, Ile-de-France, Clermont-Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Corse, Colmar, Nancy, Hauts-de-France, Jouy-en-Josas-Antony, Versailles-Grignon, ...). Its annual operating budget in 2020 was €1 billion, and it employed 11,500 people.[3]
