iShredder is a deletion software, which erases data permanently in iOS, Android, Mac and Windows.
History[edit]
Established in 2004, the U.S. company Protectstar Inc. tests and develops security and risk reduction software in computers and mobile devices.[1][2]
In 2006 they created Data Shredder, a software for secure data deletion in Windows.[3] In 2011 the company launched iShredder for iPhone, iPad and iPod[4], based in the technologies of Data Shredder for Windows. A Chinese version was introduced in 2012.[5]
In 2016 the first version for Mac OS was available.[4]
In 2017, version 6 of iShredder was released for Android[6], also new versions for Windows,[7] Windows Server, iOS[8] and Mac OS[9]; the same year Protectstar launched an Enterprise Edition, and a Military version for Mac and Windows, which contains military deletion algorithms.[10][11][12]
Overview[edit]
iShredder uses data shredding techniques and deletion algorithms that securely delete data and/or wipe the empty free disk space, making it impossible to recover deleted data on the device.[2][13][14]
It uses certified algorithms, depending on the edition: DoD 5220.22-M E, US Air Force (AFSSI-5020), US Army AR380-19, BSI/VS-ITR TL-03423 Standard, BSI-2011-VS, CSEC ITSG-06, NATO Standard, Gutmann, HMG InfoSec No.5, DoD 5220.22 SS.[10]
Last versions:
- iShredder 6 for Android[6]
- iShredder 7 for Windows and Windows Server[7]
- iShredder iOS 3
- iShredder Mac 2[15]
All versions have a standard free alternative and others with a cost (Pro, Enterprise and Military, depending on the version).[2]
The software is featured in articles on smartphone security.[16][17][18]
