I Misteri dell’Area 51 (The Mysteries of Area 51) is a series of Italian machinima videos invented and produced by two users, known as Ultra AleM and Alex, using Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The series is popular in YouTube and the fifth episode has been defined as “Best Italian Machinima of 2010” by “VideoGiochItalia”.

The episodes are comedic films featuring three protagonists, which are involved in various adventures: Ultra AleM, the scientist, Alex, the pilot, and Ilary, the guardian of Area 51, one of the most mysterious places of San Andreas. Now there are six complete episodes in this series.

Episodes[edit]

Episode 1: The Mysteries of Area 51[edit]

John and Dave, two scouts, are going to visit the Area 51, but they will be stopped and captured by Ilary at the entry. Then some friends of the scouts, known as Giampy, LangLang and Vanessa’s sister, will come to save them, but they’ll fail the mission.

Episode 2: The Chiliad’s creature[edit]

In this episode the protagonists will be informed about a strange creature on Mount Chiliad and they’ll come there to discover it. The creature is the known Bigfoot. In this adventure they’ll manage to expel it from the mountain.

Episode 3: The Panopticon’s Killer[edit]

Once they left the mount, Ultra AleM, Alex and Ilary are going to the Area 51, but they’ll have some problems at the car and have to stop. At the Panopticon hill they meet a merciless killer with a chainsaw (the Leatherface). They’ll try to defeat it, but he’ll kill Ilary with the chainsaw and Alex for his big anger throws a punch so strong to make it fly over the skies of San Andreas. At the end of the episode they’ll come back at home, regretting the disappearance of Ilary.

Episode 4: Threat from the Sky[edit]

The Earth is invaded by the aliens, who are destroying the cities and the population. Ultra AleM and Alex want to know the reason of that invasion and save the world from the disaster. They’ll discover that the aliens are controlled by a human being named MaxiMiao. He said to them that the Earth is under a dictatorship and it needs to be saved. Actually there is no dictatorship, but MaxiMiao wants the aliens destroy the authority to become dictator. Ultra AleM and Alex success to meet the aliens’ boss and to say the true to him. The boss realizes he is making a mistake and decides to return to his planet, but offers to Ultra AleM and Alex the opportunity to make a wish. They wish to resurrect Ilary, which so comes back to life.

Episode 5: The Eye in the Blizzard[edit]

Los Santos is living in the chaos: gunfights, blazes, explosions… Something strange is happening. Ultra AleM, Alex and Ilary will come to Los Santos to know what is happening and there they’ll meet Hos, an old Ultra AleM’s friend. They think that the chaos is generated by an antenna in the desert near the Area 51 (“The Big Ear”), which is sending a biological virus that is maddening the population of Los Santos.

Then Ultra AleM, Alex, Ilary and Hos go at the antenna. While Hos put some explosives at the antenna, the other three go into a near building. Here they meet LangLang, Giampy and the Vanessa’s sister, the same people which in the first episode tried to save John and Dave. Because they failed the mission, they want to revenge, but in a gunfight inside that building the Vanessa’s sister, Ilary and Alex will be killed.

After that Ultra AleM, LangLang and Giampy exit from the building, while the antenna is exploding, and Hos kills LangLang from a rock with a sniper rifle. Ultra AleM with a car pursues Giampy, but they’ll collide against a petrol pump and will die in the explosion.

At the end of the film the Mayor of Los Santos gives a speech honoring Ultra AleM, Alex and Ilary, the three heroes who sacrificed themselves for humanity, and showing a golden statue in their honor. This film has been defined as “Best Italian Machinima of 2010” by “VideoGiochItalia”.

Episode 6: No Respite[edit]

Original title: Nessuna Tregua

Running time: 1h 32' 22"

At the beginning of the film Hos wakes up, collects the sniper rifle with which he killed LangLang and finds a piece of paper. After that he leaves his own home and runs to a cave in the desert, where he finds a time car (the same of Back to the Future). He succeeds to go back in time with it and to save Ultra AleM, Alex, Ilary and Giampy, who has regretted of what he did.

After that Hos comes back in the present, gives back the car to Ultra AleM, who had created it, and greets his friends.

During the night, Alex is kidnapped and Ultra AleM, Ilary and Giampy have to go to Los Santos with the help of Kane, an old friend of Ultra AleM, who will take them by helicopter. They'll discover that the kidnapper is Janduiabest, but they'll succeed to win him and to save Alex. But Janduiabest had created antimatter, which is ready to explode inside a helicopter. Kane will sacrifice himself by blowing up the helicopter in the sea, while Ultra AleM, Alex, Ilary and Giampy go away with their helicopter.

Due to the explosion of Kane's helicopter, Ultra AleM and the others will land in the forest of San Andreas. Ilary suddenly disappears, so Ultra AleM and his friends search her in the forest all night, but they'll realize being chased by a murderer. Alex finds Ilary, but she can not speak and is going to die. So Alex takes with a lot of pain the hard decision to kill her with a pistol. After that Alex, Ultra AleM and Giampy decide to go away from the forest.

After arriving in the desert in a zone near Area 51, Giampy says he feels the presence of the murderer. Suddenly appears a zombie (the murderer) that says he wants to destroy what he created, the humanity, because it has fallen into malignancy and vice. Ultra AleM, Giampy and Alex try to win him, but the zombie shows to have supernatural powers. Giampy will sacrifice in vain himself to kill the monster and only Alex apparently succeeds to kill him.

At the end of the movie we see Alex and Ultra AleM celebrating the funeral of Ilary and Giampy. Alex thinks about what he did to Ilary, the woman whom he wanted to marry. But the monster was not dead and it reappears in the middle of the funeral in the form of a maiden: she says that she doesn't want to destroy the humanity, because she saw that love has prevailed over selfishness. So she resurrects Giampy and Ilary. Alex immediately asks her to marry him and the film ends with the marriage between Alex and Ilary.

Soundtrack[edit]

In this machinima the soundtrack plays an important role. Most of the background music is taken from popular video games, in particular from Metal Gear Solid.
