Jaylah Hickmon[1] (born August 15, 1999),[2] known professionally by her stage name Iamdoechii (Doechii for short, sometimes stylized DOECHII or IamDoechii), is an American singer and rapper from Tampa, Florida. She gained recognition with the release of her September 2020 album Oh The Places You'll Go.

Career[edit]

Jaylah Hickmon began her performance career as Iamdoechii on YouTube, vlogging as well as singing.[3] Currently an independent musician, she has not yet released any albums with a label.[4] In 2019, she turned her YouTube Coven Music Sessions into an EP of the same name.[3]

In September 2020, she released her album Oh the Places You'll Go. Her single "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" (a reference to a Junie B. Jones book)[5] started being used heavily on TikTok, bringing Doechii to a much wider audience and starting a trend of TikTok users showing personal transformations.[1] In April 2021, "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" was featured on Rolling Stone's Breakthrough 25 chart.[6] With over 10 million streams on Spotify, she began to be featured on the website's playlists, including their hip-hop series RapCaviar, where she saw unprecedented success.[1]

In October 2021, she performed at the BET Awards alongside Isaiah Rashad.
