Ian Habgood[1] (born 12 April 1974) is an English television and film score composer, music producer and filmmaker.

Career[edit]

Early work[edit]

After graduating from Newcastle College in 1996, he moved to London and began composing music for Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Madame Tussauds.

Music for film and television[edit]

In 2000, he produced music for television, composing music for the comedy series Fat Friends and Star Street[2].

In 2004 he composed music for the film Charlie[3] starring Steven Berkoff and Luke Goss. Additional films he composed music for include 9 Dead Gay Guys, Conspiracy of Silence and The Piano Player starring Dennis Hopper.[4]

Advertising agencies Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett Worldwide, McCann Erickson, and BBDO commissioned Habgood to write music for television commercials. He has composed music for brands including Pepsi, Cadburys, KFC, Nokia, Toyota and McDonald's.

Music for themed attractions[edit]

Habgood composed a mixture of orchestral and contemporary music for international amusement parks and attractions. His works are played in European parks including Alton Towers, Heide Park, Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures. Habgood composed music for Air in Alton Towers, Pirates 4D starring Leslie Nielsen, Colossus at Thorpe Park, and Colossos at Heide Park. In 2012 he composed instrumental music and the dance song "Hollywood Dreams" for the Hollywood Dreams Parade at Universal Studios Singapore.

Filmmaking[edit]

In 2012 Habgood completed a master's degree in documentary at Sussex University[5]. He went on to direct and self-produce his first documentary Planet Gong, which explores the world of Gong Baths and Gong Masters in the UK[6]. The documentary features BBC broadcaster David Hendy and won best film at the Shorts on Tap - Measure of The Senses film festival in London.
