Projects[edit]
Dubai, United Arab Emirates[edit]
- Al Warqa'a Mosque in Dubai challenges the spatial hierarchy of the common mosque, opting for public entry on three sides as opposed to the more typical single entry.[5] The mosque was considered as a multi-functional space for the community to gather and interact in after completing prayer.[6] The project references the spatial simplicity of Prophet Muhammad's 7th century Medina house, which is considered by some to be the first mosque in history.[7]
- Hai d3 in Dubai Design District is a mixed-use facility of recycled shipping containers intended for the use of the Dubai creative community[8] and based upon the plan layouts of traditional Arab cities.[9]
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia[edit]
- Hayy: Creative Hub, a multidisciplinary art centre in Jeddah, will be opened to the public in 2019.[10][11] Developed and funded by non-profit organization Art Jameel, Hayy: Creative Hub is designed as an incubator that "supports artists and creative communities,"[12] bringing together Saudi Arabian artists, playwrights, photographers, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs, all in one facility.[13] The stepped-back terraces and circulation connections in the central courtyard aim to extend the space across multiple floors.[14]
