Ibrahim Babatunde Anoba is a Nigerian historian and editor.[1][2] He is currently on the advisory council of the British think tank Institute of Economic Affairs's Initiative for African Trade and Prosperity project alongside Garreth Bloor, president of the Canada-Africa Chamber of Business, and Douglas Carswell former British parliamentarian for Clacton.[3] In 2021, Anoba joined Atlas Network as a fellow of its Center for African Prosperity and has served as editor of African Liberty, a project of the libertarian group, Students For Liberty since 2019.[4]
Political views[edit]
Anoba commentaries have appeared in The Africa Report, Al Jazeera, Forbes, ABC7 New York, Real Clear, i24News, and The National Interest. He is known for his criticism of the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), particularly regarding their handling of coup d'état on the continent.[5][6][7][8][9][10] While appearing on the London-based Arise News in the aftermath of the 2021 Guinean coup d'état, Anoba criticised the ECOWAS for sanctioning the military junta noting that the regional organisation was "only watching out for itself" because it "refused to sanction" the deposed president Alpha Condé amid gross power abuse.[11] He has also criticised Chinese presence in Africa.[12][13][14][15][16][17]
Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Anoba appeared on a New York show with American TV host Sandra Bookman where he called the Ukrainian authorities' treatment of African students fleeing the Russo-Ukrainian War a "violation of human dignity" and "racist treatments."[18][19][20][21] His works have been cited by public policy organisations including Transparency International, Oxfam, Acton Institute.[22][23][24]
