Ibrahim Sagna is a seasoned executive with over 25 years' experience in global finance and an extensive investment track record not only in telecom, outsourcing and technology, but also in traditional infrastructure and natural resources sectors.[1][2]

He serves as a director on the board of various corporates and institutions. He is a technology enthusiast and angel investor in some of the leading and most innovative tech startups across Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa. He is also a frequent judge on key technology venture selection panels on the continent.[3][4]
Early Years & Education
Sagna was born on September 6, 1975 in Dakar, Senegal. He graduated from high school at the age of 15 from Institution Sainte Jeanne d’Arc with a French Baccalaureat with a Math and Science specialization.[5]
He moved to the US and completed a postgraduate year at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut after completing an English program for foreigners at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.. He attended Boston College (BC) in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where he co-founded the university student association for Africans. The association was called Presenting Africa To U (PATU) and he served as the founding president. The association helped redefine the narrative about Africa on and off campus, and won many awards. Mr Sagna graduated with a Bachelor of Science from BC with a triple major in Finance, General Management, Information Systems and a minor in Studio Arts.[6]
He also completed his Master of Science in Finance at BC. Mr Sagna has also been sponsored by his various employers to complete management programs at Harvard Business School, London Business School, and INSEAD.[7][8]
Career
Sagna’s international career has always been focused around Africa-related investments within globally recognized institutions. He worked not only for financial institutions, especially in the development finance and private capital space, but also for entrepreneurial ventures. This allowed him to be exposed to both capital raising and capital deployment roles, and most importantly to the critical importance of international standards and governance requirements.[9]
His career includes North American experience with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Emerging Capital Partners (ECP) and The Resource Group (TRG), European experience with Millennium Global and Blackthorn Capital, and African experience as a board director to the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) of Rwanda and as a member of the Presidential Council of Investments for the President of Senegal.[10]
Today, Sagna serves as Global Head & Director of the Advisory & Capital Markets arm of AFREXIMBANK - the Cairo-based investment grade rated Pan-African Development Finance Institution (DFI) with over US$ 20 Billion of assets. AFREXIMBANK is Africa’s leading force in Intra-African Trade and Export Development. Prior to this role, Mr. Sagna was Head of Financial Advisory Services for the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), an investment grade rated DFI focused on Africa’s infrastructure.[11][12][13]
Sagna serves as a director on various corporate boards, and is invested in various companies across the African continent, especially in the tech startup industries.[14]

Sagna is a member of YPO (Young Presidents Organization).[16]
