Sheena Ruparelia (born 23 December 1988) is a Ugandan businesswoman. She is a director at Meera Investments and the Ruparelia Group.[2][3] She works mainly in real estate and hospitality. She also helps with charity work at the Ruparelia Foundation.[4][5]

Early life and education

Ruparelia is the daughter of businessman Sudhir Ruparelia and his wife, Jyotsna. She studied in Uganda and in the United Kingdom. She graduated from City, University of London with a BSc in Economics and Accountancy.[4][5]

Career

Ruparelia first worked at Crane Bank. She started as a cashier and later became a business development manager.[6][7] After the bank closed in 2016, she joined Meera Investments as a director in 2017. She also works with the group’s hospitality businesses, including the Speke Group of Hotels.[4][5]

She has been linked to projects such as Bukoto Living (a condominium project) and other apartment and hotel developments in Kampala. Bukoto Living was launched in March 2021 by Sheena and her brother Rajiv.[8][9][10]

Reports in 2025 discussed her growing public role in the group’s real estate and hospitality work. These reports said Rajiv Ruparelia stayed managing director, while Sheena continued as director focused on projects and operations.[11]

Work on events and venues

Ruparelia worked on preparations for the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo. The venue hosted the Non-Aligned Movement and G77+China summits in January 2025.[11][12]

Charity

Ruparelia is a trustee of the Ruparelia Foundation. She supports work for children, health, and community welfare. In August 2022 the foundation held a medical eye camp in Kamuli with free screening and cataract surgeries.[13][14]

Recognition

On 26 January 2025, during NRM/A Victory Day celebrations, the President of Uganda gave her a national diamond Jubilee medal.[15] Reports said it was for her work linked to the Speke Resort Convention Centre and the 2025 summits.[12][16][11]

Public talks and media

In September 2020, she spoke on an online talk show about women and development at Victoria University Kampala. She talked about confidence, equal chances, and education for women.[17][18]

In August 2018, she helped organize the comeback of the Royal Ascot Goat Races social event in Kampala.[19][20]

Personal life

She married in London in 2016. The wedding took place at The Savoy, with a reception at The Dorchester.[21] She and her husband, Jay Sakaria, have two daughters (born 2019 and 2022).[1]

In the news

In July 2025, an English High Court case management order required disclosure of documents in the Crane Bank vs. dfcu proceedings.[22] Media reports said this included searches of devices and email accounts of some people, including members of the Ruparelia family. The court did not decide the main issues at that time.[23][24]

Selected projects

  • Bukoto Living (condominiums), developer team with Rajiv Ruparelia (launched March 2021).[8][9][10]
  • Work on Speke Resort Convention Centre for 2025 international summits.[12]
