David Valentino Dior (born September 20, 2008),[1] known professionally as icepop (stylized in all lowercase), is a Spanish singer, songwriter, and producer.[2] He gained attention in 2024 with the release of his debut single, "oh she right."[3] His music blends elements of darkwave, post-punk, and electropop.[1]

Early life

Icepop was born on September 20, 2008, in Marbella, Spain.[1] His family lived near Istán for 10 years before moving to Manchester, United Kingdom.[2] Growing up, He listened mostly to hip hop and trap music from Lil Nas X and XXXTentacion,[4] and through his mother, some Spanish music, including Álvaro Soler.[1]

Career

2017–2023: Early Creative Pursuits and Musical Discovery

Before pursuing music, icepop—born David Valentino Dior—was active as a content creator on YouTube, primarily making gaming-related videos from 2017 to 2023.[4] However, over time, his interest shifted toward music, and by late 2023,[4] he realized that making music was not only more fulfilling but also something he felt naturally connected to.[2]

Initially, icepop experimented with Lil Nas X type beats,[2] drawing influence from pop, hip-hop, and electronic production styles. Using only a basic $50 microphone and FL Studio,[4] he focused on improving his vocal performance, songwriting, and production techniques. His dedication led to steady improvement, and as he gained confidence in his music, he began working toward officially releasing his own material.

By February 2024, he upgraded his equipment, investing in a Shure SM7B microphone and a professional audio interface,[4] significantly enhancing his sound quality. This marked a turning point, as he fully committed to music, refining his style and preparing for his debut.[2]

2024–Present: Breakthrough and Growing Recognition

icepop released his debut single, "oh she right,"[5] in September 2024,[3] a song reflecting on an unreciprocated romantic connection. The track quickly gained attention, accumulating over 14,000 streams on Spotify and marking his first notable success.

Building on this momentum, he released his full-length album in November 2024,[4] which amassed over 10,000 streams within two weeks.[2] The album showcased his evolving sound, blending darkwave, post-punk,[6] and electropop influences while maintaining an emotional and introspective tone.[2]

Following the album, icepop continued to release new music, promoting on TikTok with singles like "LOSING MY MIND",[7] a track exploring themes of emotional distress and obsession, and "dorm!", a song inspired by youthful relationships and experiences in a college setting.[8] These releases further demonstrated his ability to combine melancholic storytelling with atmospheric production, helping him grow a dedicated listener fanbase.[6]

icepop has also teased an upcoming release for a new single releasing March 28, 2025.[9]

Although he has yet to perform live, icepop has expressed a strong desire to bring his music to the stage. As his presence on streaming platforms continues to expand,[2] his long-term goal remains to establish himself as a major artist and push creative boundaries in modern music.[6]

With a distinct sound, a rapidly growing audience, and an unrelenting drive, icepop is emerging as a promising new voice in alternative music.[2]

Musical style

While described as a leading post-punk and darkwave artist,[1] icepop has stated in a podcast that he doesn't want to make his songs in the same genre,[2] making each track different as he plans out new releases for the future.[10] He mentioned how he makes all of his songs with different genres then adds his "icepop" element to all of the tracks which he stated makes them feel unique and fun.[2]
