“If Not That One, Then This One” (Azerbaijani: O olmasın, bu olsun) is a musical film based on the musical comedy of the same name by Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov.[1][2]
Plot[edit]
The film takes place in 1910 in Baku. A wealthy grocer, a middle-aged widower Mashadi Ibad wants to marry with young Gulnaz, the daughter of a bankrupt bek who lost at cards and went bankrupt. However, the girl loves young student Server. Mashadi Ibad is trying in every way to achieve his goal: he finds an intermediary, bribes people, but in the end he marries the servant of his failed bride.
About the film[edit]
The film premiered on January 27, 1958, in Moscow.[3] The film became the third musical comedy based on the operetta of the same name by composer Uzeyir Hajibekov (before that there were two adaptations of the operetta Arshin Mal-Alan).
