Ifie Sekibo (born 18 April 1965) is a Nigerian banker and entrepreneur. He is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Bank.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

Education[edit]

Sekibo has a degree in accountancy from the University of Science & Technology, Port Harcourt (now Rivers State University). He is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School[9] and holds a PhD in Credit Management from the London Post Graduate Credit Management College, UK, an affiliate of American University, London.[10]

He also serves as a fellow of the Institute of Directors; Institute of Petroleum, London; Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management; Institute of Credit Administration, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and other professional institutes.

Career[edit]

Sekibo started his career as an auditor with the Rivers State Government’s Audit Department in 1988. He joined KPMG in Lagos as an Audit Trainee in 1989 before moving to ELF Nigeria as a Cost Controller. He served as an Assistant Manager in Investment Banking and Trust Co. from 1991 to 1997.[11] He became a member of the Executive Management of Rims Merchant Bank from 2000 to 2002, while also serving as Financial Controller and Head of Administration in Monipulo Limited (Petroleum Development) from 1999 to 2002. In 2003, he became the Group Managing Director of International Energy Insurance, a position he held until 2009[10]

In 2009, he led a team of professionals which nurtured the re-birth of the erstwhile Societe Generale Bank which was transformed to an Innovative Commercial Bank with Regional authorization called Heritage Banking Company Ltd. In 2014, he led the bank to acquire Enterprise Bank and got a national license from the Central Bank of Nigeria to operate nationwide.[12][13][9][14]

Awards and achievements[edit]

Ifie Sekibo was Honoured at the 2014 edition of Goal Attainment Made Easy (GAME) Conference for his contribution in the financial services sector.[15] In 2016, he won the Leader of the Year Award from Guardian of the Nation International.[16]
