Ifiesimama Melvin Sekibo, also known as Ifie Sekibo, (born 18 April 1965) is a Nigerian banker and entrepreneur. He serves as the current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Banking Company Limited, a post he has held since 2014.[1][2][3]

Education[edit]

Sekibo has a degree in accountancy from the University of Science & Technology, Port Harcourt (Rivers State University), Nigeria. He is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School OPM Class (2006-2009). He also holds a in PhD Credit Management from the London Post Graduate Credit Management College, UK, an affiliate of American University in London.[1]

He also serves as a fellow of the Institute of Directors; Institute of Petroleum, London; Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management; Institute of Credit Administration, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and other professional institutes.[4]

Career[edit]

Sekibo started his career as an auditor with the Rivers State Government’s Audit Department in 1988. He joined KPMG in Lagos as an Audit Trainee in 1989 before moving to ELF Nigeria as a Cost Controller.[5]

He served as an Assistant Manager in Investment Banking and Trust Co. from 1991 to 1997.[6]

He became a member of the Executive Management of Rims Merchant Bank from 2000 to 2002, while also serving as Financial Controller and Head of Administration in Monipulo Limited (Petroleum Development) from 1999 to 2002.

In 2003, he became the Group Managing Director of International Energy Insurance, a position he held until 2009 before making the move to Heritage Banking as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer from 2009 to 2014 when he led the bank to acquire Enterprise Bank and got a national license from the Central Bank of Nigeria to operate nationwide.[7]

At Heritage Bank, Sekibo spearheads the brand’s strategy spanning retail banking, corporate banking, online/internet banking, investment banking and asset management. He has played an integral role in the bank’s expansion across Nigeria.[8][9]

Sekibo was alleged to have been involved in the diversion of Oyo state government's N13billion. A claim that was vehemently denied by the state government.[10]

Sekibo is actively mentoring young people across Nigeria.[11][12][13]
