Ignacio Giampaoli (born February 19, 1992) is an Argentine-Italian professional footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Mons Calpe SC in the Gibraltar Football League.[4]

Club career[edit]

Youth career and college[edit]

He started his football career aged 11 at CEF 18 in his home province of Tucuman and played there until the age of 15, when he signed for San Martín de Tucumán. After some years in the youth divisions of San Martin, Giampaoli was scouted to train with A.F.C. Bournemouth's under-21 squad.

In the year 2011, as a student of Universidad del Norte Santo Tomás de Aquino, he was chosen to play for his college football team that plays in the CODUCA league.

Senior career[edit]

In the year 2014, he signed a professional deal with Deportivo Iztapa of the Guatemalan first division.

That same year, Giampaoli was one of three winners of the Gatorade G-Camp Argentina 2014, chosen by staff (Juan Pablo Varsky, Víctor Hugo Marchesini, Diego Placente and Horacio Elizondo) and after training in Casa Amarilla he was rewarded with the opportunity to play for IMG Academy in the United States.

His experience playing in Guatemala and IMG Academy attracted interest from the Czech club FC Písek, which signed him for a two-year deal on January 1, 2016.[5] They immediately added him to the squad to play in the Bohemian Football League (Czech 3rd tier league).[6]

In December 2016, he attended the LA Galaxy II open tryouts where he earned the opportunity to be invited to the preseason, and then sign a 6-month contract to stay in California until the winter.

On July 1, 2017 (Australian mid-season transfer window), Giampaoli was transferred as a free agent to Weston Bears.[7][8] After he finished his season at Weston Bears he came back to the United States to play for FC Golden State Force in USL League Two (also known as PDL/Premier Development League, US 4th tier). The team became champions of the USL PDL Southwest Division and he had the chance to play the prestigious 2018 U.S. Open Cup. Such a successful year led him to sign for Devonport City FC to play again in Australia for the next season (2019), this time in the Tasmania zone of the National Premier Leagues.[9][10]

In the 2019–20 season he played for Hamilton Wanderers AFC of New Zealand in the ISPS Handa Premiership (then coached by Ricki Herbert, who led the New Zealand national team to qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup).

He then spent half a season playing as an attacking midfielder for Aris Archangelos in the Gamma Ethniki league in Greece.[11]

In December 2021 he signed a pre-contract agreement with Cymru Premier side Cefn Druids[12][13] but became a free agent a few months later.

International career[edit]

In 2009, Giampaoli was called to represent Argentina U17s in the World Cup Qualifying stages by head coach Jose Luis Brown (El Tata). After playing a friendly match against Venezuela and in consideration for the squad against Honduras in the South American U-17 Championship, he suffered an ankle injury, ending the possibility of being called back again to participate in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.
