Sorokin was born on February 20, 1971, in Balpyk Bi, Kazakh SSR (now the Kazakhstan) with parents, Larisa Vasilievna Sorokina and Anatoly Semenovich Sorokin. At the age of 16, he left his parents and moved to Novosibirsk, where he enrolled in the Novosibirsk State University Film School.
